Maternity leave Maksy binge

I discovered Rachel Maksy on YouTube back in September when I was waiting for the baby to arrive. So me and my belly binged all her videos ☺️ And now I made some fanart, I guess!

If you’re at all interested in fashion, vintage clothes, cosplay, hair, makeup or just laughing, you need to check out Rachel Maksy (link to YouTube). Such a hilarious and beautiful lady boss, and so many memes! Of which I understand only a few, but that’s fine.

Yesterday I drew this portrait of Rachel on my phone:

I had fun with a more paint-like style than I normally go for and went ham with different brushes. It turned out fine, I think, but I’m still practicing how to draw properly in ibisPaintX (check out my previous post for more on that).

Makeup or hairstyles are completely out of my comfort zone, so I’m sorry if I messed up the details. Especially Rachel’s wonderful, messy, curly bangs were very difficult to draw!

I watched a bit of video while I sketched the outline but didn’t look a lot at reference images, so the portrait isn’t based on a specific Rachel look.

I put her in a blue shirt/dress because I liked the colour, even though I know she prefers brown, hobbitty colours 😊

You can check out a 1 minute video of the drawing process over on my Instagram.

Btw I’ve decided to try to draw and post something there every day for the month of March, so stay tuned for that. We’ll see if the baby allows it! Maybe I’ll do some roundups here on the blog as well if there’s time.

Thrifted #1

I went thrift shopping for a bit today. Not for clothes though, but I often buy my clothes second-hand. And when I got home, I remembered that I recently started drawing a new “series” to use some more pages in my Inktober 2019 sketchbook:

Imagined people wearing colourful second-hand clothes

Preloved things ❤

I love finding quality products like wool sweaters or shirts from an unknown brand that I wouldn’t find in a store.

As I get older (31 who?), it means more and more to me to try to only buy sustainably. Which is very hard, and I fail again and again.

However, with clothes I find that it’s a win-win, really, since I love the hunt for something fun and unique in the thrift store and it’s a LOT better for the environment. Older clothes (which have made it to the store) are also often of a better quality than a lot of new stuff, I feel like.

Okay, you get it, I can’t recommend thrifting enough 😀 Especially for clothes, but I basically buy everything, kitchenware, pictureframes, furniture, you name it.

Stay tuned for more thrifty doodles.

November faces

It’s getting colder and darker in Denmark at the moment. The perfect season for doodling some colourful Winter people:

Winter time is doodle time!

I don’t mind the cold and the grey landscape so much, but the dark is starting to get to my brain a bit. Everytime I take a nap or go to bed at night, it goes “Oh well, time to hibernate for 6 months”.

So doodling helps me stay awake for a bit after dinner so I don’t go to bed at 8 p.m. 😀 And adding colour feels great.

I haven’t actually seen any of these Winter people IRL; they are drawn from imagination like most of my doodle people.

Except for the yellow wellies! I recently got similar ones myself, and they contribute to adding some colour to these grey days. I’ve even worn them out to eat because I like them so much.

Maybe I should get a crazy, blue fuzzy hat too!

The Weird Sisters

Happy birthday to my buddy since really long scarves and colourful tracksuits were in fashion (and before) ❤

I based the doodle on a fantastic photo of my sister and me that I found this week while sorting through some piles of old drawings, postcards and photos.

I had to call this post the Weird Sisters (if you’ve followed the blog for a bit, you know I listen to Harry Potter on audiobook over and over again). But you can probably tell from the photo who’s the weird one 😀

The photo makes me ask myself two questions:

Why did I dress like I was in a band in the 90s?

Why did I ever stop dressing like that?

Anyway, I got distracted by fashion thoughts, did I mention that my sister is awesome and that it’s her birthday?

LOL

Spring fashion baby

I saw this baby wearing sunglasses on my street yesterday:

…. and I immediately went and got my sunglasses, because that baby is now my main style icon. It’s officially Spring today, and the weather in Denmark right now is perfect for sunglasses, two hoodies and a tight blanket. Now I just need to practice the face and find transportation.

I don’t remember the colours so I added them from imagination. But I think I captured the baby boss face quite well.
