Maternity leave Maksy binge

I discovered Rachel Maksy on YouTube back in September when I was waiting for the baby to arrive. So me and my belly binged all her videos ☺️ And now I made some fanart, I guess!

If you’re at all interested in fashion, vintage clothes, cosplay, hair, makeup or just laughing, you need to check out Rachel Maksy (link to YouTube). Such a hilarious and beautiful lady boss, and so many memes! Of which I understand only a few, but that’s fine.

Yesterday I drew this portrait of Rachel on my phone:

I had fun with a more paint-like style than I normally go for and went ham with different brushes. It turned out fine, I think, but I’m still practicing how to draw properly in ibisPaintX (check out my previous post for more on that).

Makeup or hairstyles are completely out of my comfort zone, so I’m sorry if I messed up the details. Especially Rachel’s wonderful, messy, curly bangs were very difficult to draw!

I watched a bit of video while I sketched the outline but didn’t look a lot at reference images, so the portrait isn’t based on a specific Rachel look.

I put her in a blue shirt/dress because I liked the colour, even though I know she prefers brown, hobbitty colours 😊

Btw I’ve decided to try to draw and post something there every day for the month of March, so stay tuned for that. We’ll see if the baby allows it! Maybe I’ll do some roundups here on the blog as well if there’s time.

Here’s a doodle especially for the HearthStone fans and/or linguists out there.

I had this conversation with Mecha-Jaraxxus today:

It cracks me up that he is ALWAYS YELLING! EVEN WHEN SAYING SOMETHING POLITE!

Every time there’s something fun with language happening my linguist brain is like: “That’s not normal in conversation, I wonder what’s happening, let’s write a 20 page paper on it!”

I couldn’t figure out if this particular “THANK YOU” was the person being sassy or friendly, but it made me think that Jaraxxus was repeating what I was saying like a silly parrot robot demon. Either way, I LOVE IT!

Ladylike doodles

I’ve recently discovered BuzzFeed’s Ladylike channel on YouTube and now watch a lot of episodes in my breaks between job hunting.

I really like that all kinds of subjects are discussed on the channel – from periods and pesto to fashion and friendships. (Alliteration, yum).

Yesterday I watched the ladies make fan art of fans who had made them fan art. So I decided to make some fan art based on that episode:

I also really like all of the makeup/ beauty routine videos even though I rarely wear makeup myself and don’t really have a routine for what I do when I get up in the morning (is peeing and porridge a routine? Ok, I’ll stop with the alliteration). But the videos are all very fun and well-made so I gobble it all up. Also, I think part of the appeal for me is to see people (who happen to be women my age) have fun at their jobs – while still working hard, obviously.

Btw, Kristin wasn’t in the fan art episode, so I added her based on her look from the pesto competition with Jen. That’s why she looks a bit more serious, maybe 😀

These were drawn by hand and then edited in Illustrator. Now back to watching videos- I mean looking for jobs like a real adult lady!

Snape (and Umbridge)

I drew Snape and Umbridge while listening to the 5th Harry Potter book:

But Umbridge is THE WORST so I’ll make her small.

And I didn’t do any digital editing on her, ’cause boo Umbridge.

I’m already on book 6, but am almost to concentrated and excited/scared to doodle while listening, because I know what’s coming and I’m not in a hurry for the horror 😨

We also watched the first two Harry Potter movies this week so that’s confusing and fun. And after listening to the books, I catch myself saying “that’s not like the book, noooo!” literally every 5 minutes. But still enjoying the movie very much!

I made a LOT of drawings listening to the fourth Harry Potter book. Here are some of my favourites:

 

 

As you can see, the serious tone in the book made my doodles quite dark and creepy. But here’s a happy gnome and Ron wearing his old dress robes to cheer you up:
