Swol sourdough is back!

I’ve been baking sooo much bread lately, and it reminded me of a dough doodle I made for #inktober 2018. If you love baking too, you can get the new, colourful Swol Sourdough as a sticker, on a mug or notebook (among other products) in my shop.

Drawing process

The new and improved version of my dough doodle was drawn on paper using Windsor & Newton Promarkers and coloured pencils. Afterwards I did some digital editing in Gimp and Adobe Illustrator to give it some clearer colours and contrast. I also ended up using Adobe Draw to do the final line art. Needless to say, I spent many hours on perfecting this sourdough!

If you follow the blog, you might also have seen this sourdough doodle that I made a couple of weeks ago – also inspired by the doodle from 2018.

It’s funny how old drawings sometimes pop up in my head and inspire something new. I draw a lot of new things on paper and screen at the moment, too, but redrawing old stuff is very fun and challenging at the same time.

Meet Banana Squirrel and Sunday Cat

I surprised myself by putting two new designs up on my shop this week! I didn’t really plan it, but I’m really happy with them. They’re both cute animals, but in very different drawing styles.

My Redbubble shop

This lazy Sunday cat in a window sill I drew last Sunday while sitting in bed looking at the rain outside (my absolute favourite Sunday activity!).

I liked the drawing so much that I decided to make it available as a print and greeting card:

And I also think it deserved to be on a mug – especially great for slow Sundays 🙂

Lazy cat, plants and coffee = a perfect weekend.

Unfortunately I don’t have a cat – but there’s a very friendly neighbour cat who visits often to get tummy rubs. But he stays outside (mostly!).

Squirrel snacks

The second new design is based on an old doodle that I made years ago. Meet Banana Squirrel:

I have a new found love for squirrels, because we have one in our garden (because we live in a house now!!), and he stops by every morning and runs around looking for acorns from last season buried in the lawn.

Happy yellow designs

I think Banana Squirrel looks perfectly fine on his own, just chilling and eating a banana.

But the yellow background really makes for a happy design, don’t you agree?

And then if you multiply him it gets kind of ridiculous, but I had to do it 😀

So many Banana Squirrels. Possibly too many.

New doodle products…

… in time for the Holidays (maybe, I hope?!!) 🙂

I uploaded 3 new designs to my Redbubble shop last week – and forgot to tell anyone about it… So here they are:

My Redbubble shop

I chose to put the designs on different products that I think fit the drawings best. I never make one design available on all of Redbubble’s products, but I take time to really think about what products make sense with each design.

The cat design is also available on different coloured backgrounds – like this red one:

I also thought the cats would look really cool on a water bottle or phone cover, so I also made those products available – check them out on Redbubble.

At first glance this message might look a bit shallow:

But when you look closer, it’s not so bad at all:

Sometimes people get mad at other people for using phones too much – and that might sometimes be true. But to me, the best thing about my phone is that it connects me with my family and friends daily – and with people I’ve never met IRL – like you guys.

Doodles and words and things

Adding text to my drawings is new to me. But I generally like art with a combination of words and doodles (is anyone surprised??).

I think adding a bit of text can make some doodles work better as product designs and give it an extra dimension, if you will. Like the one with the phone.

Let me know if you agree, or you’d prefer the drawings to stand alone in the future 🙂

Will I get my stuff before Christmas?

According to the Redbubble website, printing usually takes 1-3 business days. But the cool thing is that they only make the products after you order them. It means less waste, and I’m really happy about that aspect.

Hey guys, I put a new veggie pattern in my Redbubble shop – it’s less doodly than what I usually make:

I made the design in Illustrator while sketching things out for a Danish food themed design competition (which I didn’t win, but the people liked my design and gave me free tickets for their event, so that was cool!).

Only the beet (in a different version) ended up in my final illustration, but I really like this pattern.

Now that I look at it, the design also reminds me of a squash comic that I made in the early days of this blog (over 4 years ago!):

It’s really weird! I think I thought it was hilarious then. I still like the style of the drawing and the expressions on the characters’ faces.

And maybe it somehow inspired me to draw the butternut squash again in a new version.

I guess I could make the old doodle a product design too (without the speech bubbles, maybe) – what do you think?
