My boyfriend and I went to London last week and stayed at a hotel. The city was amazing and sunny and we had really good food. Living together in a tiny room for 5 days was… FUN 😀 But also a little bit like:

It’s been a while since I made a comic strip – I used to draw comics when I was younger and I sometimes still make them for my own entertainment. I might make more if anything else exciting happens, like that wild duvet story!
* After posting this I can see that I wrote “this rooms looks nice” in the third image. So that one ‘s’ shouldn’t be there 🙄
I’ve recently discovered BuzzFeed’s Ladylike channel on YouTube and now watch a lot of episodes in my breaks between job hunting.
I really like that all kinds of subjects are discussed on the channel – from periods and pesto to fashion and friendships. (Alliteration, yum).
Yesterday I watched the ladies make fan art of fans who had made them fan art. So I decided to make some fan art based on that episode:

I also really like all of the makeup/ beauty routine videos even though I rarely wear makeup myself and don’t really have a routine for what I do when I get up in the morning (is peeing and porridge a routine? Ok, I’ll stop with the alliteration). But the videos are all very fun and well-made so I gobble it all up. Also, I think part of the appeal for me is to see people (who happen to be women my age) have fun at their jobs – while still working hard, obviously.
Btw, Kristin wasn’t in the fan art episode, so I added her based on her look from the pesto competition with Jen. That’s why she looks a bit more serious, maybe 😀
These were drawn by hand and then edited in Illustrator. Now back to watching videos- I mean looking for jobs like a real adult lady!
Lately I’ve been drawing with colours on paper (and not making a lot of digital stuff). I think it’s mainly because I can be on the couch with a cozy blanket and a cup of coffee and draw while watching/listening to something on YouTube or Netflix.

I started drawing some abstract blobs in Illustrator today, and it turned into a little game!
The goal is to find images in the blobs and add simple lines – here’s the result:

All of my blobs ended up as people or animals (and many of them quite sleepy), but they could also be plants or objects or something else. I draw in Illustrator, but you can definitely use a less fancy programme like a free drawing app or Microsoft Paint (which still rocks).
I like crows a lot, but I don’t think I’ve drawn one before. I like the result of the drawing, though – I think he has the suspicious facial expression and piercing eyes of a real crow.
I’m pretty sure my fascination with crows started when I was a kid reading Sven Nordqvists picture books about a cow who likes to do human things and is friends with a crow called Crow (who often tells her off for not acting like a normal cow). The title of series is “Mor Muh” in Danish – literally translated to “Mama Moo”. The Swedish author is most known for his Pettson & Findus books, but the cow books are incredible too – and the drawings are so good.

I enjoy watching drawing videos on Instagram, and today I wanted to try to make one myself. Here’s the recording of my process of making a quick drawing – it’s the result of about 40 minutes work (at 1000% speed):
I’m still learning to draw properly in Illustratir using my Wacom tablet, which is very different than drawing on paper or drawing directly on a tablet with a screen. But it gives lots of opportunities for colouring and drawing with different brushes, so it’s worth the hassle of learning.
The final drawing turned out like this by the way:
If you’re curious, the stuff on my counter this morning was (from left to right):
Massive jar of instant coffee, old speakers for listening to the BBC Food Programme (or other things) in the kitchen – behind a pot of parsley, plate with apples and a brown (not red) avocado, sugar left on the counter from breakfast (porridge), pot of rosemary, weird, tall mason jar with its own rubber seal inside, which should have been in a cupboard, stand mixer.
Sometimes there’s nothing except the mixer on the counter, sometimes its full of keys, tissues and other stuff that has nothing to do in the kitchen. But today it looks like this and it makes me happy to look at all these colours on a grey and cold January morning.

And I didn’t do any digital editing on her, ’cause boo Umbridge.
I’m already on book 6, but am almost to concentrated and excited/scared to doodle while listening, because I know what’s coming and I’m not in a hurry for the horror 😨
We also watched the first two Harry Potter movies this week so that’s confusing and fun. And after listening to the books, I catch myself saying “that’s not like the book, noooo!” literally every 5 minutes. But still enjoying the movie very much!
The most angular food I could think of was a square waffle:
After sketching this I actually went and bought a waffle iron that can make thick, square waffles (which I’ve wanted to get for a while, so it wasn’t only because of the delicious drawing 😁).
I’ve never tried a homemade version of this kind of waffle, since the waffles we make in Denmark are most often a thinner kind shaped like a clover / 4 hearts.
I have several waffle recipes I want to try out with my new gadget, and I might even start with a sourdough version.
Here’s the drawing before inking (and waffle iron shopping), I almost like it better than the inked version:
“Just one more krill and then I’ll put the bag away” said no whale with krill dust around its mouth ever.
I did a bit of research (yes, googling) today about blue whales, and this article by National Geographic explains that blue whales actually don’t waste their energy on small patches of krill. But hey, who says I need to start being accurate about things on here.
A bit about drawing tools:
I always forget to say which drawing tools I use, so here I’ve included them in the photo.
I’ve used the black pen (uniball AIR) for the thin lines in all my Inktober drawings and have been using mainly Stabilo markers for colouring.
Today I switched it up and used these Winsor & Newton water colour markers. I bought them this summer but haven’t used them a lot, because I’ve had trouble getting the technique right. But it worked out allright on the whale, even though my Inktober notepad isn’t water colour paper, yay!
