The berry thief

I went to see my parents this weekend, and they have the most amazing, giant garden full of colourful flowers and plants, fruit trees, berry bushes and butterflies.

Earlier in summer they had rhubarb, gooseberries, red currants and black currants, and now the plums, raspberries and blackberries are ready to eat, while the grapes and apples are ripening.

However, you have to be quick, because sometimes a brown and fluffy beast with a sweet tooth got there first!

*Update: I noticed my comics can be a bit hard to read, at least on my screen, so I’ve uploaded the individual images here as well:

Don’t look directly into the eyes of the berry thief, or he will make you feed him.

He fears nothing, not even the prickly branches of gooseberry bushes!

Water struggles

Sooo… On a health whim recently I decided to drink some lemon water in stead of coffee. Because sometimes I forget to drink anything other than coffee all day, and I get a bit weird. And the lemon water actually was… nice.

But the trend didn’t really stick for more than a day or two, because I love coffee so much.

So I kind of drew this to inspire myself to think positively about lemon water, and not just drink brown water (which coffee is known as in our home).

I know, guys – my life is incredibly exciting. Sometimes there’s water drama!

Squash, beet, squash, beet, squash

Hey guys, I put a new veggie pattern in my Redbubble shop – it’s less doodly than what I usually make:

See available products with this pattern

I made the design in Illustrator while sketching things out for a Danish food themed design competition (which I didn’t win, but the people liked my design and gave me free tickets for their event, so that was cool!).

Only the beet (in a different version) ended up in my final illustration, but I really like this pattern.

If you also think it’s cool, you can get it via the link on:

  • mugs, coasters, tote bags, water bottles and stickers (white background)
  • travel mugs and spiral notebooks (blue background).

Old drawings ❤

Now that I look at it, the design also reminds me of a squash comic that I made in the early days of this blog (over 4 years ago!):

Posh Squash by Wordsanddoodles (May 22, 2015)

It’s really weird! I think I thought it was hilarious then. I still like the style of the drawing and the expressions on the characters’ faces.

And maybe it somehow inspired me to draw the butternut squash again in a new version.

I guess I could make the old doodle a product design too (without the speech bubbles, maybe) – what do you think?

Meeting a fluffy friend

So, I’ve been longing to get a dog for ages. However, it’s not very practical to have a dog in our apartment where it would be alone for several hours of the day.

Also, I might have a new favourite animal…

Last week, we went on a trip to a beautiful part of Denmark to mountainbike and hike (The purple blobs in the comic are supposed to be heather – Everything was purple and green!).

There were lots of sheep and goats hanging out in the hills. This particular teen lamb was extra cute and ran up to us to check us out. And then he/she just stood there for a while. Such a precious moment!

I’m not saying a sheep would be easier than a dog to have in our apartment. But I’m allowed to dream. Maybe we should get a dog and a sheep and they could be best friends?***

If you think this post has been too cute and happy and nice so far, I also got really excited when I saw a worm crossing a poop mountain in the middle of the road:

You’re welcome!

***Minutes later: I googled a bit and found this article from the Telegraph. So I guess that plan is settled.

More beachy people

When I’d started I just couldn’t stop drawing people at the beach. Here are some more:

The apprehensive guy with the bucket hat is a different version of the guy in the yellow bathing suit in my first beach doodle post. And he’s basically me at the beach when I haven’t gone for a while. I don’t want to get nipped by a crab!

Also, did you watch my drawing video of my other beach doodles? I’m definitely better at drawing doodles than I am at editing videos, but I also have about 20 years more experience with the former 😀

I’m working on some other non-beach doodles, so they’ll hopefully be up soon.

Drawing video: Beach people

I made this video yesterday during one of my beach people doodle sessions:

I’m still very new to filming and editing drawing videos, but it’s something I’m planning to do more of.

I’m learning about what angles work best and how I get proper lighting in a relatively dark apartment. This video is actually filmed upside down – with the camera in front of me – and then flipped 180 degrees. Which I think works okay.

It takes me a while to edit, but it’s also really fun, and it’s kind of weird to watch my own hands drawing 😀

Let me know if you have any other tips on how to film a drawing process!

Beachy people

Some people go to the beach when it’s hot outside and they’re on summer vacation.

My favourite thing to do these days, however, is to stay inside and doodle. Yesterday I drew these cool people at the beach:

I do actually love swimming in the sea, but right now I just want to spend all day doing my indoor hobbies which are basically only three things: baking, feeding my sourdough starter and drawing.

I go outside for a bit when it’s cool at night, so I guess I’m kind of like a vampire. Well, I don’t know how much drawing and baking vampires do while staying out of the sun. Maybe they are just people with a lot of indoor hobbies who got a bad rep. And maybe I should stop this tangent and get some fresh air…

I also made a video of my drawing process for the first doodle, which I’ll be posting later today. **Update: It’s here:

Stupider together

I’m convinced that 3 years of living together has made both me and my boyfriend less smart…

Happier, I’m sure! I’m not complaining about the daily opportunities to cuddle and/or annoy the crap out of another human. But definitely more stupid.

I have no idea if there’s any science to support this, but I feel like sometimes my brain takes a break, because it knows that there’s someone else around to, like, keep us alive.

I don’t know what will happen if we both have a giant brain fart at the same time!

I also made this version of the comic with all 4 images together for Instagram, but I figured it was a bit hard to read the text.

Doodle shop!

Hello guys, I’m excited to share that I’ve started a small shop on the site Redbubble. So far, I’ve uploaded 7 designs, including my Happy Dragon and my morning doodles – but I’m planning to make lots more.

Some of my product designs 🙂

You can check out my shop here, and see the stickers, mugs, tote bags and other products I chose to put my doodles on:

I’d be so happy if you would favorite the ones you like, or even buy something if you feel like it. Like it says in my Redbubble bio, it would be so fun to see some of my doodles travel the world.

If you do buy anything and take a photo, please tag me on Instagram with @wordsanddoodlesblog or #wordsanddoodles. I’d love to see where they go!

Also – let me know if there are any of the doodles here on the blog that you would like to see as a product in the Redbubble shop 🙂

Planning is important…

… but so is doodling!

Which is why I made this packing list last summer for our camping trip around the North of Denmark:

Today we’re (trying to start) packing for this year’s trip, so I found this on our computer to get started.

Except, now I just want to draw, and not pack… Which I think is what happened last year 😀

Last year we were packing to only travel by bike, but this year we’re bringing the bikes along with us in the car. We’re also going to a wedding in the middle of our trip, so we probably have to bring more clothes and stuff.

There’s room for more doodles in the drawing, which means I can cram more stuff in the car, right?

Fun fact: Our bottle of shower gel doesn’t really have a picture of a naked butt on it, but I had fun drawing it that way.

Can you guess what all the other bits and bobs are supposed to be? If not, ask me in the comments 😀
