Meet Banana Squirrel and Sunday Cat

I surprised myself by putting two new designs up on my shop this week! I didn’t really plan it, but I’m really happy with them. They’re both cute animals, but in very different drawing styles.

My Redbubble shop

This lazy Sunday cat in a window sill I drew last Sunday while sitting in bed looking at the rain outside (my absolute favourite Sunday activity!).

I liked the drawing so much that I decided to make it available as a print and greeting card:

And I also think it deserved to be on a mug – especially great for slow Sundays 🙂

Lazy cat, plants and coffee = a perfect weekend.

Unfortunately I don’t have a cat – but there’s a very friendly neighbour cat who visits often to get tummy rubs. But he stays outside (mostly!).

Squirrel snacks

The second new design is based on an old doodle that I made years ago. Meet Banana Squirrel:

I have a new found love for squirrels, because we have one in our garden (because we live in a house now!!), and he stops by every morning and runs around looking for acorns from last season buried in the lawn.

Happy yellow designs

I think Banana Squirrel looks perfectly fine on his own, just chilling and eating a banana.

But the yellow background really makes for a happy design, don’t you agree?

And then if you multiply him it gets kind of ridiculous, but I had to do it 😀

So many Banana Squirrels. Possibly too many.

Corona hair is here, guys. I had a lot of fun drawing these people from my imagination. Do they look like anyone you know?

Hair everywhere!

I definitely could use a haircut sometime soon, myself. My BF has no issue – he’s been cutting his own hair for the last 15 years.

In all seriousness, though, I feel very fortunate to live in a place where COVID-19 is under control right now and things are starting to open up again.

Normal life ish

In Denmark we’re allowed to meet with friends and family as long as we keep a safe distance and good hand hygiene. I’ve also been going into the office again several times these last weeks, even though we’re all still mostly working from home.

It’s kind of scary to move out into the world more, but it’s also been very nice to have something that feels like normal life again. I hope you all get to experience that very soon, wherever you are in the world.

Unpacking doodles (also: I’m here!)

Wow, I haven’t been doodling for like 7 weeks. I think part of the reason is stupid, horrible Covid-19 that took away a lot of my creative inspiration. My light-hearted, silly drawings seem a bit out of place, I guess. So I didn’t really know what to say, after making those first couple of corona-related doodles in March.

Another big thing

ALSO, me and my boyfriend bought a house this year (!) and moved in, in the middle of Corona Craziness. So I’ve been busy packing, cleaning and (OMG!) gardening.

We’re really happy and grateful to be in the house and have some more space around us – also since we’re both mainly working from home now.

Anyway, I finally got around to unpacking my drawing stuff, and I found this quick post-it doodle that I made earlier this year:

An accurate, but not in any way beautiful doodle.

This doodles is actually quite fitting to our situation now (and always). I eat snacks around the house, and the BF keeps the place clean. OK, maybe I also help out, but the vacuuming is definitely his thing. I think I don’t really notice the croissant crumbs and dustbunnies as quickly as he does…

I thought I’d share this to show that I’m here and doing well. I hope everyone following is managing to keep healthy and sane doing this weird time.

Maybe I’ll find more old stuff to share in the unpacking process – or I might even sit down and draw new things soon – who can predict anything right now, really?!

The hello dance

Seeing people wave their arms and do air hugs instead of hugs makes me smile in this weird, sad time.

I hope this drawing will do the same for you!

I’ve seen people almost dance around like mating birds.

I haven’t really been motivated to draw a lot lately – except for this drawing I made for my friends/followers here in Denmark yesterday:

I think I need to draw more these days, at lease these two silly doodles made me feel a bit better in our home office/quarantine.

I can’t believe Sunday is going to be the first day of Spring.

At this time of year here in Denmark, it feels like Winter has lasted forever and might just continue for the rest of the year.

I’m a slow Winter fish who believes Spring is a real thing when I see it 😀

Except daylight! There’s already a lot more of that – yesterday I went for a walk around 5 p.m. and it was still light out.

So I guess I believe Spring is coming a LITTLE bit.

100 followers + early Monday morning doodles

I woke up way too early today, but I found some random things to do – and doodle for you guys 🙂

It’s 8 a.m. on Monday in Denmark right now, and I’ve been awake for hours. I know lots of people get up early everyday, but I’m a spoiled part-time worker/freelancer and didn’t even have to get up early, because I’m working from home today! Gah.

Tips for (fun?) early morning activities

I don’t often find myself with extra time in the morning and didn’t really know what to do with myself.

Yes, I watched a couple of YouTube videos. I made tea AND coffee and breakfast. And no, I didn’t feel the need to start working in the dead of night.

Instead I did these random things:

Monday Morning doodle

Repotting an orchid while really tired was a challenge, and I don’t know why I did it. Why does it have roots that act like green tentacles when you move the plant?!

I’ve (obviously) never had an orchid before, tips for keeping it alive are welcome!

Clipping my fingernails was more fun than the plant thing. Is it grossing people out to hear about my nails? I get uncomfortable the moment my nails are more than 0.5 mm long, so clipping time is happy time.

A round square

I haven’t finished the crochet tutorial yet, because then I started doodling! And blogging! Other possibly great morning activities.

I’m hoping my granny square becomes square. It’s very counterintuitive to crochet round and round with the goal of making a square. But there must be a trick, I’ll find out in a bit (if I don’t fall asleep).

Dropped the doodle ball

Ok, so, I very much dropped the ball with doodling in January… Here’s a picture of what happened:

Actually I doodled a bit, but I didn’t manage to post. Mainly because of work (I started a second “day job” doing online communication things).

But January was good, and I got to wear comfy clothes a lot.

But I promise I’ll post this month! Probably a mix of old and new doodles. Maybe even uglier than the doodle in this post.

Cleaning out come crap drawers meant facing 3 previous versions of myself… So I doodled them!

Let’s be real, my BF cleaned out drawers. And I had fun looking at my old ID cards from uni/ work and not really helping clean.

I was also planning this (frankly quite narcissistic) drawing:

Hair “styles”

I almost fell into the trap of “OH NOOO MY HAIR – I look weird!” But let’s talk nicely about our present and past selves in 2020, guys! So, here are some observations:

11 years ago, before starting uni, I basically didn’t have hair, or eyebrows! 20-year-old me in the start of 2009 also didn’t know I needed glasses yet. That one probably looks the least like me now. But I did love the short hair.

Luckily there weren’t any photos in this pile of my inevitable mullet fase I went through afterwards to grow my hair out… I luckily have that in my passport photo, so only a few people need to see that…

Sorry, I got a BIT negative there! The mullet was fine, just not… great 😀

The me from 2013 had bangs (that always swooped a bit) and studied abroad in York. Good times!

Selfie identity

The third picture from 2015 was taken at work on my first day at my first job after uni. Yay happy, sweaty me ❤

That last one is also the only one taken by a professional photographer. The other two are selfies. In 2009 they were still just called “more or less random photos you took of yourself”, I guess?

Here’s a doodle of some more Christmas presents I made for my family from thrifted fabrics.

Thrifted fabric things

The first thing is a gift bag. I made it out of a green piece of fabric from the thrift shop. It might have been a napkin or something.

Sewing is fun!

The bonus of using used fabric is that it’s already hemmed! And hemming is like the least exciting bit about sewing, I think. Strongly in competition with measuring and cutting.

Ok yes I only really like going really fast on the sewing machine! Which is a small part of the process, but anyway!

For the gift bag I just sewed it into a simple bag and tied it with a red ribbon – for optimal Christmas vibes.

It’s a scrunchie

Turns out I had a harder time drawing a scrunchie than I did actually sewing it…

The doodle is a bit off, but IRL it’s a black/dark blue shiny fabric with tiny gold stars. Originally a shirt from the thrift shop.

All I had to do was to cut and sew it into a cylinder. *Hot tip: use a longer piece of fabric than you might think so the scrunchie can stretch out when you add the elastic. I might have made this mistake for my first try. I probably could have looked up a sewing tutorial before starting but I didn’t have the patience.

I put a piece of elastic band in the proper lenght in the fabric tube, sewed the hole and it was ready for my nieces incredibly thick and beautiful hair!

From scarf to cozy

The third thing in the drawing is a burgundy scarf that I machine-washed which made it into a thick felt. Not really om purpose, but it turned out great.

I cut and sewed it into two tea glass cozies for my mum. I looked for some inspo on Pinterest but I couldn’t really find anything, so I ended up with my own design. They have coloured felt balls as “buttons” and a tiny strap. I made this so it’s possible to adjust the size og the cozy later if it gets floppy and doesn’t sit snugly on the glass.

For Christmas 2019, I made a lot of small homemade gifts for my fam. I had so much fun and only got a tiny bit stressed trying to finish all of them in time 😆

Since I’m still trying to relax and get over my cold, I thought I’d draw some of the gifts I made and tell you how I made them. The holidays are over, but they’re not specifically Christmassy things, so maybe they can inspire someone to DIY something 🙂

Bears Vs Turtles

For my nephew I made a tic tac toe game, but it’s a bit unusual:

I got the idea to make a game when I found a pack of three extremely cute polar bear figurines in the craft store.

It took me a while (and some creative inspo from Pinterest) before I decided to make a small unique version of tic tac toe.

I then found the three small clay turtles in my local Fair Trade shop.

The last step was to paint the simple gold pattern with a porcelain pen on a blue tile.
