Mermay and blurmay

This week I discovered #mermay on Instagram, and since then I’ve had a lot of fun looking at the merpeople art in many different styles. And I, of course, had to draw my own.

Mermay

In a lot of art with merpeople they are pictured looking like they are posing for the camera, which is fun, but I wanted to make this mermaid swim like she’s just going about her normal mer-business.

After finishing the drawing, I also made a second version without the pencil lines – for a more mysterious, blurry and magical look:

Blurmay

I’m impressed with the commitment that some artists have to draw each day like with #mermay and #inktober etc. It inspires me to draw something every day too, even though it’s just a tiny doodle sometimes.

Humblebee

It’s the season for confused bumblebees who visit our apartment. And they aren’t very good at finding their way out again. I don’t know much about bees, but I guess they just woke up from winter sleep? Which explains why they’re being slow and weird. But they’re also kind of cute and fuzzy.

“Where’s the buzzing door?!”

They are called “humlebi” in Danish, and – since mixing similar Danish and English words is apparently a new thing of mine – humble bee it is! (Like with the rams onions in the post before last).

Throwback bike doodle

Throwback to biking around icy Copenhagen a month ago with this guy:

I only slipped once in the snow while cycling and managed to jump off my bike and throw it aside – and LAND ON MY FEET! The rest of the trip was peaceful yet cold (but there were croissants).

The weather is starting to look a bit like Spring, and I can’t wait for a season with lots of biking. And hopefully no falling, since I’ve probably used up all my luck that one time landing ON. MY. FEET.

Cool in the cold

I’ve seen a lot of cool winter people around the city lately, including this elderly boss lady with sunglasses and walking sticks.

“Keep safe, suckas” – Elderly Lady (probably)

I drew this on a normal tablet (not the Wacom). I’ve been trying to minimize my screen time a bit, so I’ve mainly been drawing on paper for a while. But now I’m getting back to digital a bit, especially because colouring is fun.
