mlem moo

After a very busy and exciting work week, I got home yesterday afternoon, slept from 5 to 7 p.m. on the couch, woke up and drew this:

Which, I guess, represents how I was feeling. You know, kind of mlem, but also moo.

I think it also means my brain is now on Christmas mode! I’m now questioning what a deer has to do with Christmas. Or did I draw a reindeer? Definitely not a moose, they’re snouts are more horse-like. Yes, I had this discussion with my BF 😀

Snow = Christmas brain

Yesterday morning, I walked to the bus early in the morning, and it was snowing (halp!) very windy and pitch black. Later in the day, the sun came out and it was the most beautiful, sunny and chilly November day. A crazy change!

I think starting the day with a bit of snow and a bent umbrella (haaalp!) definitely activated those Christmas sensors in my brain. I woke up today thinking about gingerbread cookies and candles and gift ideas.

I’m guessing more festive doodles are coming.

Wireless ears

I finally bought new headphones. They don’t even need to be plugged in, look!

Okay, I know bluetooth isn’t a new thing, but I’ve been needing proper headphones for, like, years. I’ve been using the little earbud type ones that came with a smartphone, and didn’t really fit my ears or have great sound. And now that I have a commute I really need some good ones to block out the bus noise. And for the office when I need to focus on some writing or web editing.

I feel bad every time I buy new stuff, especially lately! I’m very sad about the state of the environment and want to live as sustainably as I possibly can. But I realised it doesn’t mean that I should never buy something that I need.

So now I’m going to look at this doodle for a bit and try to convince myself that I really needed these headphones.

Maybe I’m not making much sense! I had a crazy busy, but very fun week at work with different projects.

You might not believe it based on my ramblings on this blog, but I started teaching English as a second language! It’s an evening class for adults once a week, and it’s soooo much fun, and my students are super motivated to learn.

I learn a lot about the English language too! My mum says teaching is the best way to learn, which is very wise and definitely true for me at the moment.

Doodling daily

I tend to stop doodling when I get busy with work, but I want to change that. Especially since Inktober is coming up next week! I participated in the drawing challenge last year – see my drawings here:

I really want to do it again this year. It was really fun to draw something every day for a month, and only a bit stressful 😀 Last year, I had just quit my old job, so I didn’t even have to juggle a day job and drawing every day – and it was still a challenge. But we’ll see if I can manage – I’m going to try!

*Fun fact: My new headphones aren’t actually as big as I made them in the drawing 😀 But my smile is!

Summer jobs

I recently got a new communications job, woohoo!

It’s not actually a summer job, I just happened to start in the beginning of summer. And I’m really happy to be working again.

It’s a lot of fun getting to know new people and doing some writing, web administration and graphic design again. You’d think I wouldn’t have time to doodle, but I’m actually doodling A LOT when I have time off. Just haven’t come around to posting, but I’m hoping to do get into it again on a more regular basis.

I also recently got a second gig making a poster illustration for a friend’s sports club, which I hope to share on here when it’s done. Another fun and challenging “summer job”!

I don’t actually work sitting on a pillow on the floor, but I saw a girl working on her laptop in the park sitting like this. And it looked kind of comfortable. Maybe I’ll try it out. It was fun to draw!

Drawing process:

Drawn with black marker on some shiny photo paper (which I found in my pile of unused drawing paper). Then I edited the doodle a bit and coloured it in using Adobe Illustrator and my Wacom drawing tablet as usual. I redrew the hands digitally, because they looked strange in the original drawing. To me, hands are one of the most difficult things to draw!
