Better Safe Than Sorry…

'AKA I'm trapped in my own preparedness, please let it start to rain soon.'
‘AKA I’m trapped in my own preparedness, please let it start raining soon.’

”You’re really… Prepared!”, A British lady once said to me when I walked into a room at university completely soaked in my rain suit. My polite response was: ”Hah, yeah!” but I was thinking: ”HELL YEAH I AM! I’m so utterly and completely prepared for ANY type of weather, ESPECIALLY RAIN, and who are you to kind of judge me for it, and why doesn’t everyone wear rainy pants when it’s rainy outside?!”

Anyway, that was a while back. And my rainy clothes (as I still like to call them for lack of a better word in English) have long needed an update. So after a very rainy couple of weeks and being soaked to the bone several times (even while wearing said rainy coat and rainy pants), I spent a whole afternoon looking for the most waterproof and not too idiotic looking new set. And I got it. Aaaand it hasn’t rained since. But I obviously insist on wearing my raincoat whenever I go outside, because I’m always SUPER PREPARED, like the lady said. And her comment made me want to OWN IT! I recently found the above doodle. I don’t remember when I drew it, but its facial expression perfectly expresses my feeling when I walk in the sun with a raincoat on, quietly mumbling to myself like a lunatic: ”Just start raining, just a little bit. Come on. Okay don’t, but I’m PREPARED.”

Grown-ups in the house

'1, 2, 3 - No more school for me'
‘1, 2, 3 – No more school for me’

It’s been a good week for the flat! My awesome roommate has been working her ass off and now finally got a job with pay – so yay! I made her pancakes and a doodle to celebrate (did I just find a way to make that about me? Yes). I also got my final grade this week, so I’m officially no longer a student. We don’t get a fancy hat when we graduate university in Denmark, but it looked better in the doodle than a stack of papers.

Today I was at IKEA with my roommate to buy curtains. Then later I was at the Opera House at the opposite end of the city and saw Swan Lake. Both experiences were very cultural. Whatever that means.

Going to Ikea is kind of the ultimate test of any friendship, and we passed. We actually had a laugh! Awesome. My first experience with proper ballet was also awesome. Noone has thigh muscles like that. Both experiences were also definitely worth walking and cycling through rainy and snowy Copenhagen. That being said, I wouldn’t mind if winter stopped happening soon. It’s allright, winter, we’ve seen what you can do know, all the different things. Now you’re just showing off.

Shave the sheep #specialehjerne

Specialeproces slash Barber et faar

I made this drawing 2 weeks before the hand-in date for my master’s thesis. At that stressful point in the process I was trying to figure out WHAT I was doing and HOW. I also thought quite a bit about the WHY, but let’s face it: ”Why am I doing this?” is not really productive to worry about 2 weeks before something is due. Anyway, the HOW turned into this doodle and helped me do some focused work in my last two weeks as a student. I don’t know where the sheep came from (aside from the fact that I just like them). In Danish we have the expression ”Så er den ged barberet” – ”Now that goat’s been shaved! / Well, I just shaved the goat!” (Not sure how to properly translate it).

Feel free to link people to this post if you think this doodle could be helpful for them in their academic writing process, or if they like sheep. I mean not in a creepy way, just the normal amount.

Oh and hey, I also used the hashtag #specialehjerne (mostly in Danish) quite a lot during my writing process, so check that out for inspiration / confusion.

What’s appropriate for a first blog post when you want to say:

“Hello everyone! I love language and words and drawing and doodles”?

One of the most inappropriate characters I know is Howard Wolowitz (The Big Bang Theory). I love how Howard always tries really hard to be cool, but often turns out super awkward. Sometimes he throws out something in French, which we all know is a cool language. Howard also has a great way of entering a room wearing a sweater vest, and his (kind of) French version of “what’s up” is very close to my linguistic heart – somehow making this doodle of him that I just made today oddly appropriate.

My blog also wants to look good and be cool and hang out with the other blogs – with the risk of turning out a bit weird! Which is allright! I mean, look how happy Howard is.

So, Qu’est-ce que c’up, guys! Get ready for more cool-slash-awkward doodles!

WordsAndDoodles tiny doodle with legs 02

So I finally started blogging! I’ve been doodling on paper for years, and I’ll be presenting some of my old and brand new doodles on this site. I’ll also be writing some words.

This site is dedicated to my own written work and drawings, but follow my tumblr for re-blogs of other people’s fun stuff, or my instagram for photos of things. Also, there’s some more words on my twitter sometimes.
