This might get doodled

I’ve been binge watching the YouTube show “This might get” with Mamrie Hart and Grace Helbig this weekend. It’s a really fun show, and I love how they include fan art in the end of every episode. Here’s my doodle of the two awesome women:

My favorite episode so far is definitely “This might get campy” where they read letters from kids at summer camp. “I used my toothbrush to dig for worms!”

Pizza Gull

Possibly a distant relative (somehow) to the famous Pizza Rat:

“Oooh, mushroom – my favourite!”

He lives in Denmark, and you’ll recognize him by his very straight legs (’cause I forgot that sea gulls have knees).

At first I coloured Pizza Gull white, because I also forgot that sea gulls have grey wings and a black tail (even though I see them every day flying around the city looking for pizza and other goodies!).

“Quack!”

The pale gull looked more like a duck, so I decided to give him some more nature-like colours.

The French Chef

In my baking binge (which I talked about in yesterday’s blog post) I randomly discovered the show ‘The French Chef’ with Julia Child in my search for “croissants” on YouTube. This show is just the best!

I’m learning cooking techniques and fancy dishes in a low-key and practical way, and I LOVE the humour and little nuggets of cooking/ life wisdom like:

“potatoes are a neurotic vegetable”, or

“…finish up the sauce with some light cream – or you can put in milk if you’re on one of those hideous diets.”

This is definitely my new favorite cooking show, possibly my favorite show in all categories.

I didn’t make the Salade Niçoise yet, but it looked really nice, so I had to draw it. And then there was the episode with a 20 lbs lobster sitting on the table, while Julia Child casually teaches lobster lore. And then there’s the cake in a cage of sugar! I could go on, but I’m off to watch more videos and write down food ideas.

Foodles

I’m on a cooking / baking binge right now and realised that I needed to do bring some food doodles to the blog. Foodles? No.

I thought the binge would last maybe the first 3-5 days of my summer vacation, but now I’m on week 3 and still baking away.

I made my own sourdough starter right before going on our bike trip and was very worried if it would survive 2 weeks in the fridge (which the recipe said it would).

My initial excitement over the witchcraft that is sourdough (where do the bubbles and the yeast and the wonderful sour smell come from?*) led to this little doodle in my notebook:

From weird goo to lovely loaf!

It seems my starter survived and I’ve fed it and baked some wonderful sourdough loaves since we got home.

It seems sourdough is somewhat of a trend (at least on YouTube and Instagram) so now I spend quite a bit of time checking out recipes and images of beautiful bread. I really like the show “It’s Alive with Brad” on the Bon Appetit YouTube channel and have watched the sourdough episode with Brad and Claire like 5 times.

Painting a couch cat

I don’t paint very often, because I’m always clumsy and the paint gets everywhere. But today I felt like it and made this relaxed couch cat:

I haven’t been drawing a lot lately because I’ve been on a bikepacking vacation for a couple of weeks with my boyfriend (including some days spent chilling with my sister’s cat in a house by the beach 😎). But now I’m back with all my paper and pens and computer and stuff, ready to doodle and maybe paint some more. And hopefully be as relaxed as couch cat until I go back to work next week.

(I didn’t realise while painting this that the cat is either really big or the couch is really small 😂)

Napping bag

I love it when summer is a bit chilly and windy (like in Denmark at the moment) so I can hang out outside in the shade in my sleeping bag.

We’re testing out our camping gear at the moment to prepare for a bike packing trip next week. So I need to REALLY check if my sleeping bag is good.

We spent two nights in our new tent in the garden, which was so fun that it almost made me want to stay home. But (luckily) we have family and friends to visit, so we have to pack up the tent and get going soon.

Blob dogs

These puppers are only now realising that they’re on summer break. And it’s a very blobby feeling! (Yes I’m on summer break from today and my brain is a blob).

You’re welcome to print out the blobby dogs and put them on your office door (or wherever you work) to let your colleagues know when you’re away for the summer. I put a less creative tiny note on my door today, since I hadn’t made these blobs yet. Maybe I’ll make a “back to work” or “Hello I’m back” version in August.

This blob dog was the first one I doodled:

It showed up in the middle of another drawing and inspired the making of the rest of the pups, so I decided to honour it with its own colours (which very much makes it look like a balloon animal).
